Statement of Purpose of the Wimmera Hearing Society Inc.

  1. To identify (where possible) and receive requests from those individuals with a hearing loss and direct them to the appropriate agencies and individuals for assistance.
  2. To campaign for improved access to facilities, employment and opportunities in general for those with a hearing loss.
  3. To provide a Hearing Screening Test Programme in the Wimmera area for all members of the community, with the emphasis on the adult population.
  4. To provide a counselling service using trained personnel, for hearing impaired persons and their families.
  5. To provide a basic hearing and maintenance service using trained personnel under the guidance of Australian Hearing Services.
  6. To provide a forum for the public to discuss concerns, developments and general issues regarding hearing loss.
  7. To disseminate information related to concerns, developments and general issues regarding hearing loss.
  8. To maintain close liaison with Government departments, professionals and other community welfare groups to ensure that procedures adopted are appropriate, information disseminated is current, and co-operation maintained.
  9. To campaign for improved recognition and increased research into the cause and effect of Tinnitus.
  10. To provide opportunities for hearing impaired individuals to meet on an informal basis as an avenue to overcoming isolation and to encourage interaction and information seeking.
  11. To provide and maintain, for demonstration purposes, a store of devices specifically designed for or, in any way able to assist those with a hearing impairment and/or Tinnitus.
  12. To assist in the development of any device, item or publication (either printed or audio visual) which has as its purpose the furthering of the aims of this Society.
  13. To sell without profit, any material/s referred to in Item 12 above.
  14. To seek those funds necessary for the implementation and maintenance of the stated purposes.
