The past few months have been very interesting with many decisions being made for the improvement of the hearing service to Western Victoria.

We have been fortunate to get funding to kick start replacing the Mobile Testing Unit and we've now applied for funding to fit out a state of the art new mobile testing Unit. This is planned to be in use by the end of the year.

Having looked at lots of options, we are now drawing closer to a decision of what would be the best options.

The new mobile testing Unit would have four custom private hearing screening booths and testing areas, along with a private area for the volunteers.

Plans will be in the next Newsletter.

Recently Pat Uytdehaag and I attended the Deafness Forum Conference in Canberra, again another interesting and rewarding conference, and as always we came back to our little Wimmera Hearing Society service and think "Boy"! We sure have a very unique and special service that covers a large area of country Victoria.

The reason our service is so great is because of the volunteers that assist with implementing the programme, whereas other parts of Australia are crying out for a service like ours.

Many times during the conference people have indicated "How do you do it?”

Pat has kindly written a report on the conference which is on Page 9 with a couple of photographs on Page 8.

We attended the Swan Hill Field Days this year for the first time, with a huge response from the public. Word of our service certainly gets about, as most people using the service had heard about us from someone else.

I would like to congratulate Mrs. Wendy Rule. Wendy has completed her audiometrist training, and will be commencing with Australian Hearing Services shortly in Horsham.

In this Newsletter is the Camp Registration Form. If you would like to attend, please send the registration form back sooner rather than later, please. This year is camp Number 19, what an achievement with the big 20 years coming up next year.

This edition of the Newsletter seems to be all reports and information, along with some photos. I hope you get some information or tips that will assist you with your hearing problem.

I recommend you read Jean Hood's report. Jean is such a positive person. Fitted with a cochlear implant, her attitude is inspirational to all.

By reading her article you can appreciate someone who has been deaf and now, with an implant, her determination to overcome any minor hearing issues, and be an active member in Society.
