This page provides information on downloads of programmes and other details that you may require to get the best experience at the Wimmera Hearing Society's web site.

Adobe Reader for PDF (Portable Document Format) files This icon indicates that a PDF file is available

PDF's are offered through-out this web site and appear in Barb Ryan's Ménière's Support Group and as a full page of all the Archive articles to date. PDF's have become a very popular way of giving access to information, allowing the viewer to print it as a hard copy if required.

More and more web sites are using PDF as a basic part of their architecture and design. However, if your Internet connection is a dial-up modem, the download speed for PDF's may be a bit of a challenge, due to their size.

Click here to go to Adobe's web site and then follow the prompts.

In the case of this web site, you are given alternatives: PDF's, Word documents (.doc), and direct access to the web page that these files relate to. Going to a web page is generally faster than downloading files, although if you want to print that page, you may find it less labour-intensive to download a Word document or PDF.

Adobe Flash Player

Flash is not on every page of this web site but occasionally appears through-out the site. Should you see blank boxes, then you probably haven't got Flash Player installed.

You have possibly noticed that at certain web sites (and more sites are making use of Flash every day), images sometimes do not appear correctly, if at all. This could also be the result of 'Flash Player' not being properly installed on your computer.

Click here and then follow the prompts. It should only take about two minutes to download.

Word documents

These appear through-out this web site and are generally in Office 2003 Word (.doc) format. This is backward compatible to Word 2000.

These files are not compatible with Office 2007 (see below). However, we will be adding an updated version of the web site's Word files to comply with Word 2007 functionality very soon.

To open Office Word 2003 document files with Office Word 2007, you need to install the 'Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack' for the Office Word 2007 format (.docx) and any necessary Office updates.

By using the Compatibility Pack for the Office 2007 system, you can open, edit some items, and save Office Word 2007 documents in previous versions of Word.

There is, however, only one file that's in Office 2007 Word format (.docx). This is the print version of the Barb Ryan's Ménière's Support Group meetings for 2009.

Apple Safari

Apple's Safari is a web browser that is compact, easy to customise and use, and it's a relatively small package that offers all the facilities of other major browsers. Heaps of add-ons are also available. It's suitable for both PC and Mac.

Safari will also display all pages through-out this web site the way they were designed.

Safari should take about 10 - 15 minutes to download (depending on your Internet connection) and set-up.

Click here to download Safari and then follow the prompts.
